I Would Like To Believe
I Would Like To Believe
I would like to believe that religions promote love
I would like to believe that their mantra is caring
Yet all that I hear as the voices ascend
Is hateful and without forbearing
I would like to believe there is love in this world
Not for gods but a love for each other
We need not share lineage nor even our blood
To feel each to the other as brother
Yet down thru the centuries rivers of blood
Have been shed in the name of some god
Intolerance rampantly lifted it's hand
Mercilessly beating many to sod
What hope have we then when repetitive hate
Instead of repetitive love...
Raises it's scepter to maim and to kill
And no god intercedes from above
I would like to believe when we wake from this hell
When our bodies and souls are forlorn
That each moment be filled with nothing but love
That mans evil will fade with new dawn.
